Description: | Wheeling Jesuit University is seeking a Graduate Assistant (GA) for Basketball. The GA will provide assistance to the head coach with tactical play and analysis, individual technical advice, game knowledge and experience.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree with a 3.0 cumulative grade point average from a four-year college or
university. Must be enrolled and remain in a Master’s Degree program at Wheeling Jesuit University for the extent of the Graduate Assistantship. High-level playing experience and exposure to professional coaching preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
COMPUTER SKILLS
Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office, email and web-based applications; may be required to use Front Rush recruiting software.
OTHER:
Must have a valid driver’s license. Must pass NCAA Compliance Exam. Knowledge of FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) and HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) strongly recommended. Commitment to implementing the vision, mission, and values of a Catholic, Jesuit, university.
Essential Functions:
Independently assist in player development both on an individual and team basis.
Responsible to inform player(s) of his/her responsibilities, duties, roles, etc.
Serve as assistant in recruiting student athletes.
Schedule role specific targets by assessing individual players.
Coordinate and participate in specific practice training and fitness sessions relative to the sport.
Supervise and assist in weekly mandatory study halls.
Other duties may be assigned by the Head Coach or designee.
Compliance Responsibilities:
Read, interpret and apply policies and procedures in assigned area; document as required by policies and procedures; maintain qualifications and certification; complete annual training as required by position.
