Tim Cleary is no longer the head basketball coach at DIII Pacific University (OR), and assistant Coach Jerod Gibson has been elevated to interim head coach for the 2017-18 season. The university will begin a search for a permanent Head Coach in the spring of 2018.
Cleary had been at Pacific for the past seven seasons where he compiled an 80-94 record. He also spent eight seasons as an assistant at Boise State, and three seasons at UC Irvine.
Gibson spent the last four years as the top assistant on the men’s basketball staff and the head coach of the junior varsity program. He has also been integral in the recruitment for the Boxers and directing the defensive efforts for Pacific. Prior to Pacific, Gibson spent eight years as an assistant coach at Western Oregon University, one year at Portland State University, and seven years at three different Oregon High Schools (Beaverton HS, Roosevelt HS, and Corvallis HS).
“First, I’d like to thank Ken Schumann for allowing me this opportunity to lead the men’s basketball program,” said Gibson. “I’m really excited for the opportunity to continue to move forward on the success that we have established over the past four years. This program will continue to display our tradition of hard work, toughness, and enthusiasm. I also want to thank Coach Cleary for his mentorship, leadership, and most importantly, his friendship!”
“I am excited to have Jerod Gibson lead the men’s basketball program this year on an interim basis,” said Pacific athletic director Ken Schumann. ” Jerod has done great work for the program over the past four years in his role as assistant coach and I look forward to a successful season under his leadership. I also would like to thank Tim Cleary for seven years of good work for our men’s basketball program and Boxer athletics.”
