Dan McHale Will Not Be Retained as EKU Men’s Basketball Head Coach

Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball head coach Dan McHale will not be retained, Director of Athletics Stephen Lochmueller announced on behalf of the university today.

“After reviewing our men’s basketball program, I determined a change in leadership is needed at this time,” Lochmueller said.  “We want to thank Dan McHale for his service to Eastern Kentucky University, our community and the men’s basketball program.  We wish Dan, Jackie and their family all the best in the future.”

McHale was introduced as Eastern’s 20th head coach on April 9, 2015.  He recently completed his third season.  During that time, the Colonels compiled a 38-55 overall record and a 16-34 mark against conference teams.  EKU did not qualify for the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament in any of those three seasons.

From 2003 to 2015, Eastern Kentucky earned 13 consecutive trips to the OVC Tournament, winning the event three times (2005, 2007, 2014) and playing in three NCAA Tournaments.

A national search for Eastern Kentucky’s next men’s basketball head coach will begin immediately.
