HoopDirt.com can confirm a report from NEWS CENTER Maine that former Maine women’s coach Richard Barron will replace Bob Walsh as the head men’s basketball coach. The school parted ways with Walsh earlier today.

Barron has most recently served as a special assistant to the Athletic Director after stepping away from the women’s job for medical reasons. In his six seasons as the head coach, he compiled a 96-96 record. He also spent six seasons as the women’s coach at Princeton and was an assistant at NC State and Baylor.

A 3:30 press conference has been called to make the announcement.
