Chattanooga Promotes David McKinley to Assistant Coach

It didn’t take long for Chattanooga Mocs Head Men’s Basketball Coach Lamont Paris to figure out who to add to his staff after the departure of Aaron Fuss to Kent State. He just needed a slight glance down the hallway.

David McKinley was promoted last week to the on-the-floor coaching role as assistant coach. He spent the last two seasons serving Paris’ Mocs staff in a support position first as assistant to the head coach and last year as director of basketball operations.

It’s the first assistant coaching position for the Ohio graduate. He has been a graduate assistant at his alma mater and video coordinator at Wright State before coming to Gig City in the summer of 2017.

“David is an extremely hard worker,” Paris opened. “He epitomizes what our program is about in how we handle our business. He’s very loyal and detail-oriented, and he did an outstanding job in his role our first two seasons.

“David’s worked his way up through the ranks. He does a great job relating to the guys and is extremely organized. He’s extremely excited about the opportunity so I anticipate he’ll do a great job.”

McKinley joins Tanner Bronson and Eddie Shannon alongside Paris on the Mocs bench. Bronson is entering his third campaign as assistant coach, while Shannon was added in early June to replace Walter Offutt (Toledo). It’s Shannon’s second tour of duty as he assisted Matt McCall in 2017. He’s also marks the last time a promotion was made to fill out the staff replacing Jesse Bopp in 2016 after a year in the ops chair.
