Piedmont College Head men’s basketball coach Greg Neeley has announced Kyle Combs will be added as Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach in the fall of 2019. Combs comes to Piedmont after spending the last three seasons on staff at the Citadel serving as Director of Basketball Operations since 2017.
Combs began his career with the Citadel as a graduate manager before working his way up to Director of Basketball Operations. In his role with the team, Combs managed budgets, coordinated team travel, analyzed film and dealt with all administrative areas of the program along with alumni relations.
“I am thrilled to join Coach Neeley and Piedmont College Men’s Basketball. I look forward to getting started and I am excited to be part of a program that has had success both on and off the court,” Combs said. “As a former student-athlete in the USA South, it is also exciting to rejoin the league and compete against familiar foes.”
Combs is no stranger to the USA South as he was a four-year starter for Methodist University’s men’s basketball team before serving as a volunteer assistant coach with the Monarchs.
“I would like to give a special thank you to Coach Neeley and Jim Peeples for giving me the opportunity to be a part of the Piedmont athletics community,” Combs said. “Additionally, I want to thank Coach Duggar Baucom and the rest of the Citadel Basketball staff for being great mentors over the last 3 years and preparing me for this opportunity.”
Prior to his time at the Citadel, Combs was a volunteer Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at his alma mater Methodist University from 2014-2016. While at Methodist, Combs implemented weight-lifting programs, planned individual and team workouts and organized summer camps in addition to recruiting.
“Kyle is a great fit for Piedmont College. He played in the league and comes highly recommended based on his work at The Citadel,” Neeley said. “He is committed to integrity and strong character which is most important in our program.”
A four-year starter on the Monarchs’ basketball team, Combs was named team captain for the 2012-13 season.
Combs earned his bachelor of science in health education and physical education from Methodist University in 2013. He completed his master’s degree in leadership from the Citadel in 2019.
Combs will assist Head Coach Greg Neeley in all facets of the men’s basketball program.
