Emporia State men’s basketball coach Craig Doty has rounded out his coaching staff with the addition of three new coaches. Tyler Bredehoeft, Chase Dippel, and Brian Morton will all be joining the program for the 2018-19 season.
“I am excited to be adding three additional quality coaches to our staff,” Doty stated. “I have known Coach Bredehoeft since 2009 and I’ve known Coach Dippel for three years. Both arrive at Emporia State with multiple years of college coaching and recruiting experience. Coach Morton joins our staff after completing his playing eligibility at ESU last season. Coach Morton will allow for us to have some continuity in the program as we build off the positives of the previous coaching staff.”
A native of Alma, Mo., Tyler Bredehoeft spent the past five seasons in Leavenworth, Kan. as an assistant men’s basketball coach at University of Saint Mary. He served the last three seasons as the top assistant under head coach Troy Brown as well as the recruiting coordinator while being active in all facets of the Spires men’s basketball program.
In his five seasons at Saint Mary, the Spires posted a 95-57 record including a 62-38 mark in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) play. Bredehoeft coached the all-time leader in collegiate points scored for a Kansas college player, Grant Greenberg, who broke Danny Manning’s in-state record by scoring 3,330 total points in his four year career.
Bredehoeft played two seasons at Concordia University where he earned All GPAC honors his freshman and sophomore years. He finished his player career at Central Methodist University and helped the Eagles win a Heart of America Athletic Conference Championship and earn a national ranking of #11 in 2010. He is a 2012 graduate of Central Methodist with a Bachelor of Science in history education. He has earned Master’s degrees from Saint Mary in education in 2015 and another in sports administration in 2017.
Lindsborg, Kan. native Chase Dippel joins the Emporia State staff after spending this past season as an assistant coach at Ottawa University under head coach Aaron Siebenthall. Prior to Ottawa, Dippel was an assistant at University of Saint Mary with Coach Bredehoeft, for two seasons.
As an assistant, Dippel has helped lead his programs to a 51-39 overall record. Before joining the collegiate coaching ranks, he spent a year as a social studies teacher and assistant coach for football and basketball at Southern Cloud HS in Glasco, Kan.
Dippel played at Ottawa for head coach Andy Carrier, who was an assistant for the Hornets during their 31-5 season in 1986. Dippel is ranked in the top ten of career scorers for the Braves with 1,354 points. He graduated from Ottawa University with a Bachelor of Science in history and earned a Master of Arts in education from the University of Saint Mary.
Brian Morton will serve as a student coach as he finishes his undergraduate degree in recreation as part of the fifth year scholarship program at Emporia State. He just completed a two year career with the Hornets in 2018. He started 48 of the 55 games he played for the Hornets. He scored 21 points on seven of nine shooting as Emporia State nearly upset Missouri 67-62 in Columbia, Mo.
Morton transferred to Emporia State from Lansing (Mich.) CC and is a Lansing Eastern HS graduate.
This completes Coach Doty’s first coaching staff at Emporia State. He has won three national championships in the last five years, and captured the NAIA Division I title for Graceland in front of over 6,000 fans in Kansas City’s Municipal Auditorium. All-MIAA guard Brandon Hall leads the returners from last year’s 9-19 Emporia State squad.
