Bridgewater College men’s basketball head coach Shawn Postiglione has announced the addition of Tyler Schlegel to his staff as an assistant coach.

Schlegel assumes the position previously held by Steve Enright who recently accepted an assistant coaching position with Division I Virginia Military Institute.

“I am very happy for Steve getting a great opportunity to advance in his career as he gave our program three years of extremely hard work and devotion,” said Postiglione. “I am also pleased that we have been able to fill his position with an individual who brings a lot to the table as a person and coach.”

With Schlegel, the Eagles are getting a coach with experience at various levels of college basketball.

Schlegel began his coaching career with stops at the University of Mary Washington and St. Mary’s College of Maryland, both strong Division III programs.

In his first season of college coaching, the 2013-14 season, he helped lead Mary Washington to the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) championship. The team finished with a 25-6 record, the best mark in program history, and a trip to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Division III National Tournament.

Schlegel moved to St. Mary’s where he helped lead the Seahawks to the CAC regular-season title and a 20-5 record in 2014-15.

He then took a position in the Division I ranks as the director of basketball operations and recruiting coordinator at the University of Maine. After one season in that position, Schlegel was promoted to assistant coach.

“Tyler’s teams won a lot of games during his previous stints as a Division III assistant, and his time on the Division I level has added to the depth of his experiences and skill set,” added Postiglione. “Tyler is a hard worker who embodies our values and culture. I am excited to have him join our staff.”

Schlegel earned his bachelor’s degree in environmental studies from Rowan University in 2011. He earned a master’s in sports management from California University of Pennsylvania in 2015.
