The Director of Player Development reports directly to the Head Men’s Basketball Coach. This individual is responsible for preparing student-athletes for personal, academic and athletic development success. Responsible for adhering to all Department and University policies and procedures, as well as the rules, regulations, bylaws and interpretations of the Big Ten Conference and NCAA.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Analyze Northwestern and opponent film and collaborate with the coaches in preparation of competition strategy.
• Chart and record statistics to forecast efforts for basketball plays, student-athletes and the team, providing advanced modeling of successful approaches to game strategy for the coaching staff.
• Create and implement individual development plans to ensure student-athletes’ needs are addressed and met as they relate to academics and/or personal goals.
• In conjunction with sports performance and sports medicine staffs, develop and monitor the conditioning and training program to enhance individual and team potential.
• In collaboration with academic services, guide and promote the academic success of student-athletes, providing a positive atmosphere conducive to the social and academic growth of the student-athlete.
• Under the direction of the basketball recruiting coordinator, review recruiting documentation, prepare general correspondence, and assist in all areas of recruiting as allowed by the NCAA according to Bylaw 11.7.2.
• Responsible for adhering to all Department and University policies and procedures, as well as the rules, regulations, bylaws and interpretations of the Big Ten Conference and the NCAA.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor’s or higher degree; OR appropriate combination of education and experience
• Previous experience coaching or playing at the collegiate level or working in an athletic department setting

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with intercollegiate basketball as a student-athlete or coach preferred.
• Knowledge of NCAA, Big Ten Conference, University and Department rules and guidelines preferred.
