Tatum Joins Slippery Rock Men’s Hoops Staff

Slippery Rock head men’s basketball coach Ian Grady has announced that former Alderson Broaddus standout Malcolm Tatum has joined The Rock coaching staff as a graduate assistant for the 2019-20 season.

“I’m very excited to add Malcolm to our coaching staff,” Grady said. “Malcolm’s experience as a player on both the collegiate and professional levels, as well as his time coaching under Greg Zimmerman and his character in general will make him an invaluable asset to the Slippery Rock men’s basketball program.”

Tatum comes to The Rock after serving as director of player development, recruiting and video coordination at Alderson Broaddus University in 2018-19.

Before entering the coaching profession, Tatum played professionally in El Salvador, Brazil and Spain.

Tatum was a standout player on the collegiate level at Alderson Broaddus, where he was a four-year starter and led the Battlers to a pair of Great Midwest Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles. He was a two-time first team all-conference selection, the 2015 G-MAC Player of the Year and an All-American in 2015.

For his career, Tatum scored 1,298 points and produced career averages of 12.5 points, 3.6 assists and 3.4 rebounds per game while shooting 43 percent from the field and 83.3 percent from the free throw line.

Tatum graduated from Alderson Broaddus in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in sports management and a minor in business administration.

In addition to his coaching duties, Tatum will pursue a master’s degree in adapted physical activity at Slippery Rock.
