On Saturday, I published the list of finalists that I had heard at D2 Shaw University. At that time, I mentioned former Maryland Eastern Shore and Hampton head coach as the leader – I’ve now heard from multiple sources that he has in fact gotten the job.
Collins, was a division 1 head coach at Hampton from 2002-06 (65-57) and UMES from 2014-18 (49-82). Between those jobs, he spent eight seasons as the head coach at D2 Winston-Salem State. Collins has spent the past two seasons as an assistant at South Carolina State.
Collins would replace Dominique Stephens, who had served as the interim head coach at Shaw following the resignation of Joel Hopkins back in October.
An official announcement is expected this week.
