Hatcher Added To Bridgewater College Coaching Staff

Bridgewater College men’s basketball head coach Steve Enright has announced the addition of Jarrett Hatcher to the Eagles’ coaching staff.

“We are incredibly excited to add Jarrett to our staff,” said Enright. “He will be a valuable asset in moving our program forward. I believe he is more than qualified for this role and will help us on the floor, in scouting and in alumni relations.”

Hatcher, a 1993 graduate of Bridgewater College, is a former head coach at Robert E. Lee High School in Staunton, Va. and still teaches at the school, now named Staunton High School.

While a student at Bridgewater, Hatcher worked on Bill Leatherman’s basketball staff. Hatcher first served as a student assistant before being elevated to student assistant coach where his duties included scouting opponents and coaching the Eagles’ junior varsity team.

Following graduation, Hatcher worked on the basketball staff at Robert E. Lee with his father, Paul Hatcher, a legendary high school hoops coach. The elder Hatcher, also a Bridgewater graduate, won 897 games as the head coach at Lee, the most in Virginia High School League history, and four state titles. Paul Hatcher was inducted into the Bridgewater College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999.

Jarrett Hatcher assisted with the varsity team and was head junior varsity coach at Lee from 1992-2003. He was the varsity assistant coach from 2003-2011 and during that time the Leemen claimed two state championships and won a state-record 85 games in a row.

Following his father’s retirement, Jarrett Hatcher took over as head coach of the Lee program in 2011 and coached the program for six years. In 2017, he led the Fighting Leemen to the State 2A Championship with a victory over Amelia.

During his coaching career at Lee, Hatcher coached several college players, including current Division I players Darius George at Marshall and Jarvis Vaughan at Monmouth. Both were members of the 2017 state championship team.

Hatcher graduated from Bridgewater College with a degree in history and political science.
