A Sunday Edition of the Daily Dirt (not that Sunday is different from any other day at this point…)
- A few things at ETSU…no secret here, but Steve Forbes took his entire staff – assistants Brooks Savage and BJ McKie as well as DBO Frank Davis with him to Wake (with roles to be determined). Current ETSU interim head coach Jason Shay should find out his fate shortly. If he doesn’t get the job, he’ll join Forbes as well. While Shay should be the choice at ETSU, keep an eye on New Mexico State head coach Chris Jans. Should have some indication tomorrow on which way this is headed, and if any more guys will be “officially” involved, but hearing right now this is a two horse race.
- It sounds like Eastern Illinois assistant coach Rand Chappell is in the mix to become the new head coach at Johnson County CC (KS), and according to some, the deal could be done. Chappell has been on Jay Spoonhour’s staff at EIU since 2013 and has also been the head coach at Central Arkansas and Garden City CC (KS). An official announcement here is expected early next week.
- I’ve heard that D2 Eastern New Mexico has wrapped up their search. Word on the street is that former Southern Indiana assistant coach Brent Owens is the leader here. He was a long time staffer and former player at USI, who was not retained when Stan Gouard took over there last month. More when this becomes official.
- With Anthony Owens departing the UT Tyler staff to become the head coach at Columbia Basin College, it sounds like former Grand Canyon DBO Dylan Hidalgo will be the choice to replace him. Hidalgo had previously worked with UT Tyler head coach Louis Wilson at GCU, and has also served as an assistant at Pima CC (AZ).
