Dawson Community College Names Kyle Lawson Assistant Coach

The Dawson Community College Men’s Basketball team hired Kyle Lawson as an Assistant Coach for the 2020-2021 season. Lawson spent the last two seasons as a Graduate Assistant at NCAA DII Black Hills State University in Spearfish, SD working under Head Coach Ryan Thompson. Last season, the Yellow Jackets compiled a 20-9 record and were regular season co-champions in the competitive 16 team Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC). He has had experience with player development, recruiting, scouting, and organizing camps. Before his graduate assistantship, Lawson played collegiately at Metro State University in Denver and in junior college at Orange Coast College in California.

Lawson received his Bachelor’s Degree in History from MSU Denver and will complete his Master’s Degree in Strategic Leadership at Black Hills State University this summer.

DCC Head Coach Joe Peterson praised his new assistant, “We are really excited to add Kyle to our staff.  He brings a lot of positive energy every day and comes from a very successful program.  He’s already made an impact in his first couple of days on the job.  I know our players are really going to enjoy working with him on the court and spending time with him off the court.  He is a relational person who other people are drawn towards.”

Coach Lawson shared his thoughts, “I am truly blessed to be joining Coach Peterson’s staff at Dawson Community College. The recent success of the program drew me to the position initially, but I quickly learned about the great culture Coach Peterson has developed the past five years. I am looking forward to continuing the success of the program on the court while developing great relationships with the players and the Glendive community. Most importantly, I am looking forward to helping our student athletes reach not only their athletic goals, but their academic and personal goals as well. Go Bucs!”
