The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette is confirming that Hall of Fame basketball coach Eddie Sutton has passed away tonight. According to the report, the 84-year old Sutton had been in hospice care in Tulsa at the time of his death.
Sutton won over 800 games in his career at the D1 level, where he served as the head coach at Oklahoma State, Arkansas, Kentucky, Creighton, and San Francisco. He was a two-time AP National Coach of the year (1978, 1986), and led teams to the Final Four three times – Arkansas in 1978, and Oklahoma State in 1995 and 2004.
The legendary coach was elected to the College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2011, and this past April was selected for induction in to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
