According to an ESPN report, LSU head coach Will Wade “arranged for, offered and/or provided impermissible payments, including cash payments, to at least 11 men’s basketball prospective student-athletes, their family members, individuals associated with the prospects and/or nonscholastic coaches in exchange for the prospects’ enrollment at LSU.”
Wade is already under investigation by the NCAA after he was caught on a 2017 FBI wire tap saying that he made a “strong-ass offer” to recruit Javonte Smart (who wound up signing with LSU). Wade was featured in HBO’s documentary “The Scheme” which included audio of the wire tap.
Through out the initial NCAA investigation, Wade has not been fully cooperative. According to ESPN, a July 15th letter by NCAA vice president of enforcement Jonathan Duncan read in part, “He is employed in a leadership position at LSU, yet the institution has been unable to secure his full cooperation and is accountable for his behavior.”
LSU officials have not commented on the latest allegations.
