Indiana Tech Men’s Basketball Adds Trio to Coaching Staff

The Indiana Tech men’s basketball program has finalized its coaching staff for the 2020-21 season, head coach Ted Albert announced. Now in his fourth season at the helm for the Warriors, Albert will be joined on the sidelines by Javante Wilson, Kenton Aubrey and Josh Riikonen for the upcoming year, none of whom are strangers to the Fort Wayne, the Northeast Indiana area or the NAIA.

Wilson enters his second season with the Orange and Black and was elevated to an assistant coach earlier this summer after spending last year as a volunteer assistant under Albert. A graduate of Concordia Lutheran High School, Wilson was an assistant coach at Snider before coming to Tech last season, where the Warriors went 21-12 and won the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) regular season title and qualified for the NAIA Division II National Championship. He also has coaching experience in the AAU circuits with Team Focus and Indy Heat.

Aubrey returns to the Summit City and joins the Warriors following one season as the Director of Scouting at Arkansas State University. Prior to this time with the Red Wolves he spent three years at city neighbor Purdue University Fort Wayne, ending his stint there as the Director of Operations. Aubrey attended Indiana University Southeast and was a member of the 2010-11 men’s basketball team that won the KIAC (now River States Conference) regular season and tournament titles while qualifying for the NAIA Division II National Championship. Aubrey worked as an assistant coach with the Grenadiers following his playing days and was also a student manager for Western Kentucky University. Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, he graduated from Western Kentucky with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in Health and earned his Masters Degree in Organizational Leadership from Purdue Fort Wayne.

Riikonen comes to Tech following a three-year stint with regional foe Huntington University where he served under Ty Platt. Riikonen has several years of high school coaching experience with stops at Huntington North, Jay County and East Noble in addition to working with Indy Heat. Originally from Elkhart, Indiana, Riikonen was a four-year letter winner at Taylor University where he accumulated over 800 points and 600 rebounds for the Trojans. He graduated from Taylor in 2014 with a degree in Social Studies Education and is currently pursuing his master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Ball State University while teaching AP Psychology at Huntington North High School.
