White Elevated to Interim Head Coach of Emmanuel College Men’s Basketball Program

The Emmanuel College Athletic Department has named Tell White as the Interim Head Coach for the Men’s Basketball program, it was announced on Monday, May 25. White, formerly an Assistant Coach on the staff, takes over the program from former Head Coach Danny Lawson who accepted a position on the Men’s Basketball staff at Division I UMBC earlier this month.

“It is with immense gratitude, I want to thank Director of Athletics Brendan McWilliams and Associate Athletic Director Andy Yosinoff, for allowing me the opportunity to lead the Emmanuel Men’s Basketball program,” said White. “For the last three years, I have called Emmanuel College home and it is an honor to be recognized in this manner by a community I care so much about.”

No stranger to the sidelines, White began his coaching career as an Assistant Coach at his alma mater Endicott College for the 2015-16 season, becoming immediately invested in all facets of the program, including recruiting, scouting, and player development.

From 2016 through 2018, White served as a Player Development Intern for the Dallas Mavericks of the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the Associate Head Coach at Huron High School. As an intern, White worked with the coaching staff during the preseason to help analyze plays and rotations and was responsible for developing scouting reports on NBA players. As the Associate Head Coach, White helped lead Huron High to become the runner up in the Class A Southeastern Conference.

“I am very excited that we have selected Tell White as Emmanuel’s next Interim Head Men’s Basketball Coach,” said Yosinoff. “He’s been a very important part of rebuilding the program over the last few years with his outstanding recruiting work and enthusiasm on and off the court. He has the unique ability to connect with all his players and everyone in the Emmanuel community and I feel strongly that our men’s team will continue making great strides under his leadership in the GNAC and region.”

Since joining the Saints staff in the fall of 2018, White has helped the program post a 37-15 (.712) record over two official seasons of play, including a 15-7 record in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action. He was a member of the 2019 D3Hoops.com Northeast Region Coaching Staff of the Year that lead the team to an 18-8 record to show an overall improvement of 14.5 games from the previous campaign, the largest turnaround in the country.

He followed up his stellar Emmanuel coaching debut with a 19-7 mark in 2019-20, posting the program’s highest single-season winning percentage at .731 while leading the Saints to a home GNAC playoff berth for the second consecutive season.

“I am confident our team will build on the tradition and culture Coach Lawson implemented, and continue to strive for excellence on and off the court,” said White.

Coach White and the Saints bring back 12 returning players from the 2020-21 roster and welcome in four newcomers for the 2021-22 campaign which begins on Friday, November 12 when EC hosts Framingham State University in the Emmanuel Tip-Off Classic.
