A few rumors from the Midwest…..

Some things that I picked up while traveling over the past few days…..

Carroll University (WI) is conducting interviews today and tomorrow and is apparently down to the final two for its vacant men’s basketball job. Dave Buchanan, Head Coach at UW-Superior, and John Baines, Assistant Coach at Elmhurst are meeting with school officials with an announcement expected to come shortly.

University of Wisconsin-Stout is going to hire Matt Bessen as an assistant. Bessen took last season off after going 0-21 as the girls coach at Oshkosh North.

I’ve heard that Kenyon (OH) Assistant Coach Arlen Galloway is leaving to take an assistant spot at Middlebury. Middlebury was 24-4 last season and should be tough again in the ultra-competitive NESCAC.

Finally, our thoughts are with former UNLV Head Coach Jerry Tarkanian. Tark was supposed to have spinal surgery yesterday, but it was postponed because his blood is too thin for surgery. The surgery is to remove a bone spur pressing on the spinal cord which has made walking difficult for him over the past few years. We’ll keep you updated as we hear more.
