Millersville men’s basketball coach Casey Stitzel has named Adam Van Zelst as an assistant coach. Van Zelst comes to the Marauders after eight seasons as an assistant at Albright College.

Van Zelst was a NABC Under Armour 30-Under-30 honoree in 2017-18–an award recognizing up-and-coming young coaches in men’s college basketball. This past season, he helped Albright to a 20-7 record and a NCAA Tournament berth.

“We are very excited to add Adam Van Zelst to our staff,” said Stitzel. “Adam is a young, promising coach. With his tireless work ethic, ability to relate to student-athletes and his recruiting connections in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland, I know he will be a huge asset to our program.”

Van Zelst, a 2010 graduate of Albright, developed eight All-MAC Commonwealth players including a pair of MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year winners. Two of his players went on to play professionally. Van Zelst’s responsibilities included recruiting five states, developing scouting reports and game plans, editing game film and handling social media. Van Zelst also did plenty behind-the-scenes at Albright, serving as the athletic department’s director of event staff for the last five years.

Van Zelst played point guard for Albright for four seasons, starting 53 consecutive games from 2008-10. As a team captain and senior in 2010, he helped his squad to a 21-6 record, a conference championship and a NCAA Tournament appearance. He ranks in the top 10 of the school’s all-time assist leaders. Van Zelst earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration/marketing.

Van Zelst joins a program that enters its third season under the direction of Stitzel. Stitzel led the Marauders back to the postseason in 2017-18 and scored a second upset of nationally-ranked Shippensburg. Stitzel’s second recruiting class is set to join the team in the fall.
