American University men’s basketball head coach Mike Brennan appointed Drew Adams Director of Basketball Operations in September of 2014.
In this role, Adams handles the day-to-day operations of the basketball office, including film exchange and breakdown, team travel, on-campus recruiting and team camps.
Adams comes to Washington, D.C. from Creighton University where he served as the special assistant to CU head coach Greg McDermott. For the Bluejays, Adams assisted in the creation of game plans with video and scouting reports as well as providing postgame analysis and advanced scouting reports. He also aided in recruiting database management and various recruiting activities. Adams was active in all Greg McDermott Team and Individual Camps.
Last season, Creighton reached unparalleled program heights, claiming a No. 9 AP ranking in early March and an eventual No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Bluejays were led by three-time All-American and National Player of the Year, Doug McDermott.
Prior to Creighton, Adams served as an assistant coach at the University of Chicago from 2008-2013 under 15-year bench boss Mike McGrath. While with the Maroons, Adams coached two first-team All-UAA conference performers, one second-team selection and the 2012-13 UAA conference rookie of the year.
Adams played collegiately at the University of Chicago for four years, serving as the team captain for the 2006-07 UAA championship squad. He earned All-UAA honorable mention status his senior season. Adams was also the 2007 Joseph F. Stampf Award Recipient; awarded to a senior student-athlete from commitment to high values and integrity.
Adams completed his masters degree in coaching and athletic administration at Concordia University Irvine, located in Irvine, California, in 2012.
