The search at Alabama A&M is progressing. According to a source, there were about 60 applicants for the job. That list was almost immediately cut in half because the candidates did not meet some of the qualifications. I’ve heard that the committee is in the process of getting the list to eight and then down to a final four. The idea is to have a new coach in place by May 1st. I can confirm that there are three strong contenders that are still in the mix. They are:
Cy Alexander – Former SC State and Tennessee state head coach. He is 343-306 in 22 seasons as a head coach.
Eugene Harris – Former head coach Florida A&M. Went 46-80 in four seasons at FAMU. Spent a lot of time as a high major assistant with stops at Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, and South Alabama.
Michael Grant – Head coach Stillman College. Led his squad to a 24-8 record this past season and won 2 games in the NCAA DII tournament. Was also the head coach at Southern for two seasons and spent seven years as the head coach at Central State (OH).
