New Alabama A&M Basketball Head Men’s Basketball Coach Donte’ Jackson has begun to assemble his staff for the 2025-26 season. Kyle Jones has been hired as the associate head coach, and Cameron Prather and Devarus Walker have joined the staff as assistant coaches.
Kyle Jones – Associate Head Coach
Jones comes to The Hill after assisting the men’s basketball program at Grambling State for 12 seasons and helped the Tigers win the 2024 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Men’s Basketball Tournament as GSU reached the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament.
During the 2017-18 season, Jones helped engineer a rebirth for the Grambling State men’s basketball program as he helped guide the Tigers to 17-14 overall and 13-5 in SWAC play. During that outstanding season, Jones earned an NABC Top 30 Assistants Under 30 selection.
Since his arrival at Grambling State University, he has hit the ground running. Jones has held multiple positions within the athletics department including graduate assistant in the Compliance Office, Interim Director for Academic Enhancement and Assistant Director of Academic Enhancement. In his coaching career at GSU, Jones has produced seven SWAC All-Tournament Team selections, four 1st team All-SWAC selections, one Freshman of the Year, two Black College All-Americans, and has helped thirteen athletes to move on to the professional ranks.
Having made an impact on many students’ lives, Jones says he loves what he does and can do at Grambling State University and is forever grateful and humble for the opportunity given to him to be a part of this great staff.
Born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana, Jones is the oldest of three siblings. His parents are the late Antonia Anguiano and Mack Jones. While growing up in Shreveport, Jones played for his father, Mack Jones who was a legendary Louisiana high school coach, taking the Huntington Raiders to the Top 28 in 2008 which was the second time in school history while achieving the best record in school history, 37-4.
Jones moved on to play for George Ivory at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (2008-2013). He was a member UAPB’s 2010 SWAC championship team which was the first SWAC basketball title in school history. After an incredible career at UAPB, Jones followed in his father’s footsteps and stepped right into coaching.
Jones holds a B.S. in English (2013) from University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and a Master’s in Sports Administration (2014) from Grambling State University. He is seeking his doctoral degree in Developmental Education.
Cameron Prather – Assistant Coach
Prather spent the past two seasons as an assistant to Jackson at Grambling State.
Prior to his time at GSU, he served as an assistant coach at Wallace State Community College. While at WSCC, he coached a top 100 player in NJCAA, as well as multiple all-conference performers. Wallace State sported a record of 61-27 in the three years he was on staff.
Prather previously coached at Athens Prep Academy in Tennessee, where he also served as an assistant. There he helped develop numerous Division I players such as Darlinstone Dubar, Isaac Spears, Chris Nix, Josaphat Bilau, Angelo Stuart and Tyrus Baynam.
Prather, who graduated from Whites Creek High (Tenn.), played collegiately at Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tenn., from 2011-2015. Prather was first team all defense in 2014. In 2012, Cumberland reached the Division II Top 25.
Prather earned his bachelor’s in health and human Performance with an emphasis in sports management and his master’s in business administration. He served as a graduate assistant there for two seasons before moving on to Athens Prep.
Devarus Walker – Assistant Coach
Walker comes to The Hill after serving two years as an assistant coach at Grambling State University, where he helped the Tigers win the 2023-24 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) regular season and men’s basketball tournament as GSU advanced to the NCAA Division I Basketball Tournament.
Before Grambling State, Walker spent the previous five seasons at Stillman College. While at Stillman, he helped guide them to a 112-34 overall record with five NAIA National Tournament appearances with their farthest appearance being the Sweet 16 in 2021. He also recruited and coached several Player of the Year, All Americans and All conferences players.
Before Stillman College, Walker spent a year at Jones College (MS) guiding them to a 29-2 overall record, a state and regional championship, along with a Sweet 16 appearance in the NJCAA National Tournament.
Prior to Jones College, Walker, a former East Central CC (MS) basketball standout, spent four years at his alma mater as an assistant to his former coach, Maurice Bowie, and Robert Thompson. He was a member of the Warriors basketball and tennis team from 2007 to 2009.
Walker brings an outstanding track record of player development, having coached several players to Division 1 institutions such as Big South, Conference USA, SEC, Southland, SWAC, WAC, and other 4-year institutions as well.
Walker is a native of Hickory, Mississippi, and a 2007 graduate of Newton County HS. He was a standout in basketball and tennis, in which he won several state tennis championships. He received honors in both sports.
Walker earned an associate degree in Liberal Arts at East Central CC in 2009 and a bachelor’s degree in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation at William Carey in 2012, where he also played basketball and tennis. He is currently enrolled in the Sports Administration graduate program at Grambling State.
