Alcorn State has narrowed the list of candidates for head men’s basketball coach down to three finalists. The finalists are

Richard Horton- a 1982 graduate of Alcorn State University, is currently Head Boys and Girls Basketball Coach and Athletic Director for the Humphreys County School District, was a graduate assistant for Lady Braves Basketball team under the legendary Shirley Walker from 1983-1985

David Ponton – former Grambling State Lady Tigers coach and three time SWAC Coach of the Year with over 25 years of experience. He was Men’s Assistant Coach from 1988–1992 and served as Head Women’s Basketball Coach for the 1997-2008 Grambling State University Lady Tigers. Ponton is a 1986 graduate of Southern University.

Luther Riley- former Braves Graduate Assistant, currently Head Men’s Basketball Coach at John W. Provine High School in Jackson, Mississippi, received masters from Alcorn State
