Wilmington College Head Men’s Basketball Coach Micah Mills has announced the promotion of Alex Trevino to the program’s top assistant coach.
“I would like to thank Coach Mills for giving me this incredible opportunity,” said Trevino. “My family and I are excited to be able to continue to invest in the Wilmington community, and to lead Wilmington basketball into a successful future.”
Trevino, who will enter his fourth year on staff for the 2022-23 season, spent the previous three years as a part-time assistant coach. During his time with the Fightin’ Quakers, WC has qualified for the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournament each season. The 2021 OAC Tournament, held after a unique conference-only season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Trevino helped WC to an upset of No. 2 Heidelberg University and a road victory in the postseason for the first time in seven years. Additionally, he’s mentored four All-OAC honorees including two-time First Team selection Jeffery Mansfield.
“Coach Alex Trevino has been all in on growing as a coach, building relationships with the players and adding value to our program and all of Wilmington College since day one,” said Mills. “I am beyond excited to have such a high character, consistent worker, and passionate assistant to help lead our young men. Alex adds value to our program by bring a analytical-based approach with a strong passion for player development both on and off the court. He aligns very well with me with the understanding that it is a must our players grow as people just as much and if not more then they grow as basketball players.”
One of Trevino’s main responsibilities with the program has been serving as its recruiting coordinator. He plays a big role in finding and evaluating student-athletes that fit both the program and the College. Academic advising is also under Trevino’s umbrella and the Quakers achieved a 3.39 team grade point average for the spring semester of 2022, one of the highest in team history. He also works with Point Guard College (PGC) as a instructor, and has worked with over 1,500 athletes across six states.
Prior to WC, Trevino spent two years as an assistant coach at Solano College in Suisun, California, where he helped develop student-athletes academically and athletically. Originally from Ohio, Trevino graduated from The Ohio State University in 2012 with a degree in international studies.
In addition to his role with the men’s basketball program, Trevino will be entering his second year as an assistant director of athletic communications.
Trevino resides in Wilmington.
