Andrew Green named Roadrunners assistant men’s basketball coach

State Fair Community College Roadrunners Basketball Head Coach Matt Brown has announced the addition of Andrew Green as the part-time assistant men’s coach. Green brings experience from various levels, including collegiate and high school, and experience as an academic advisor and college-level instructor.

“When players are looking to be recruited, they want to be recruited to the highest level, where they can win, and they can win the right way,” said Green. “As a coach, I look at it under the same lens. I want to be where it is the highest level of basketball; the program is set up to win and win the right way. When I was able to connect with the athletic department and Coach Brown, I knew that all those things were in order. When you couple that with the great community and academic environment, I was sold from the start.”

Green spent the 2019-2020 season as head men’s basketball coach at South Puget Sound Community College in Olympia, Washington. He led his team to a 23-6 record and finished 12-2 in the Northwest Athletic Conference West Region Standings. South Puget Sound advanced to the Elite Eight before the conference tournament was canceled. His student-athletes also did well in the classroom, earning a 3.07 team grade point average, and all four sophomores graduated.

Green was the associate head men’s basketball coach at Westminster College, an NCAA Division III school in Fulton, Missouri, from 2014-2019. His duties included recruiting, scouting, practice planning and video coordination, along with academic oversight and game management.

He helped Westminster qualify for the NCAA Division III National Tournament in 2016 and 2017. Green also helped Westminster to qualify for the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Basketball Tournament Championships in 2016 and 2017.

During the summers of 2014 and 2016, Green served as the head coach for a group of collegiate players who represented the United States overseas playing semiprofessional and club-level teams.

From 2012-2014, Green served as an assistant men’s basketball coach at William Woods University, an NAIA University in Fulton. He was involved with recruiting, player development, scouting, game management, and academic oversight.

From 2010-2012, Green was head varsity boys basketball coach at Northwestern R-1 High School in Mendon, Missouri, where he also taught Social Studies.

Coach Green believes he brings versatility and adaptability to SFCC’s coaching staff.

“I’m going into my 12th year as a coach,” said Green. “I’ve seen it from different levels, starting at high school to four-year college level and the community college level. I have been a head coach at the community college level and a longtime assistant coach at the four-year level.

“As an assistant, I need to be an extension of Coach Brown’s voice but also be a voice for the players to Coach Brown. My experience on both sides of that gives me an opportunity to support the program in many ways. I have always had a passion for the classroom and education. It has been my career in basketball that has opened a lot of doors for that. Everything from being in the admissions department to most recently being on the academic advising side, which I think will be helpful to our student-athletes. I think education and athletics go together.”

Several factors stood out to Coach Brown throughout the interview process for an assistant.

“Coach Green is from Missouri,” said Brown. “He has coached at William Woods and Westminster. He has a lot of ties in recruiting the state of Missouri. Coach Green has also been a head coach at this level. He will help us in many areas within the program such as academics, on the floor coaching, skill development, recruiting, and scouting.”

Green earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in History with minors in Education and Business from Central Methodist University in Fayette in May 2010. He earned a Master’s in Education with a focus in Curriculum and Instruction in May 2014 from William Woods University.
