Andrews named Assistant Basketball Coach at Colorado Mesa

Head Coach Mike DeGeorge and the Colorado Mesa men’s basketball program have announced the addition of B.J. Andrews to the staff as an assistant coach.

Andrews joins the CMU staff after spending two seasons as an assistant coach at San Diego City College. The Knights have a current nine-season streak of reaching the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) regional playoffs and advanced to the regional Sweet Sixteen in 2023. At SDCC, Andrews coached alongside Mitch Charlens, who has led the Knights to seven 20-win seasons, and California JUCO Hall of Fame Coach Rusty Smith.

While at SDCC, Andrews completed opposition scouting, developed individual workouts for each player and helped recruit alongside the rest of the staff. Prior to his time with the Knights, Andrews spent the 2020-21 academic year as an associate basketball coach and substitute teacher at Oceanside Collegiate Academy in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, a top-20 prep program in the state. He also coached at the prep level for one season in Maryland.

As a player, Andrews starred at Clarion University, a Division II program in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). Andrews was named Rookie of the Year in 2013 and was named First Team All-Conference in 2016-17. He played professionally in Ireland and Cyprus for three seasons and began his coaching career by coaching a girls high school basketball team in Dublin, Ireland while playing there. Andrews graduated from Clarion in 2017 with a degree in marketing.

Andrews will join a CMU staff that also consists of Head Coach Mike DeGeorge and Assistant Coach Kyle Bossier, who both return for their sixth seasons at Colorado Mesa in 2023-24.
