Jonathan Annan, a SUNY Delhi men’s basketball alumni and current EOP Counselor, has been hired as the head coach of the men’s basketball program, Athletic Director Bob Backus announced Saturday.
Coach Annan brings a strong commitment to the development and success of student-athletes after being a part of the SUNY Delhi family for over a decade. He will be the 16th head coach in history to lead the men’s basketball program.
“I’m very pleased to announce the selection of Jonathan Annan as our next Head Men’s Basketball Coach of the Broncos,” said Backus, “As an alumnus and former basketball standout for the Broncos this is an exciting next chapter for our men’s program.”
“I want to thank the man above for this Golden opportunity,” said Annan, “It is a dream come true to be able to coach the team I started my collegiate career with. My life has prepared me to take this role, and I am extremely excited to get going. I look forward to connecting with the student-athletes in our program, while helping them flourish both on and off the court. Let’s Go Broncos!”
While the success of last year still rings, the in-house hire brings along confidence that Coach Annan will make a significant impact on the basketball program and the overall athletic community. His previous experience at Delhi includes six years as an EOP Counselor which illuminates his strong commitment to the development and success of student-athletes. In this role, he has worked closely with college students from academic and financially disadvantaged backgrounds, helping them overcome obstacles in their journey.
Annan served as an undergraduate assistant men’s basketball coach at SUNY Farmingdale and has since dedicated his time as a volunteer coach, mentor, and trainer for student-athletes ranging from grade school to collegiate level. His commitment to nurturing young talent and fostering personal growth aligns perfectly with the values and future of the program.
As a collegiate athlete, Annan had an incredible four years, scoring over 1,000 points with three schools. He started at SUNY Delhi in 2010 where he played 69 games in two seasons, helping the Broncos to two Region 3 NJCAA Championship titles. He then moved after graduating to play at Post University for a year before finishing at Farmingdale for his senior season where he started all 27 games and led the team in steals and assists. In addition to his college playing experience, Jonathan has played professional basketball in the ABA with the Oneonta Octane and Binghamton Bulldogs.
Annan’s leadership style, humble demeanor, and selfless attitude make him an excellent fit for this position and the next chapter of the program. His expertise, passion for the game, and dedication to the holistic development of student-athletes will contribute to the success and growth of the student-athletes.
He currently lives in Oneonta, NY with his wife and three kids. Annan holds his family very close to his heart and would not be here without their support.
Coach Annan holds a graduate degree in Coaching from Stony Brook University, a bachelor of science in Sports Management from SUNY Farmingdale and an associate degree in Liberal Arts & Sciences from SUNY Delhi.
