Crazy stuff going on surrounding the search at Brown. Here’s a recap of what’s happened over the last 15 hours or so…
Late yesterday afternoon, I reported that I had two sources who each gave me the same four finalists. I said in my blog that I did not love either source (http://hoopdirt.com/blog/1e771ca6/brown-rumors/…), but went with them anyway. Shortly after I published my story, CBSSports’ Jon Rothstein “tweeted” that Penn assistant Mike Martin was the choice at Brown. I then updated my blog to let our readers know that Rothstein was saying the Martin was the man.
Now on to last night…After all of this went down, I got a call from a source who is VERY close to the situation. He assured me that while Martin is in the mix (and may in fact be the front runner), the deal is not done yet. New Brown AD Jack Hayes (who does not officially start until 6/1, but is calling the shots), has apparently decided to wait until after the long weekend to make any announcement. I guess it’s a crazy time at the university with commencement on Saturday, so it makes sense to hold off on a hiring. Also, my source wouldn’t confirm the four others that I listed as finalists, but he did say my list was 3/4 good – without mentioning names.
This seems like a very fluid situation. More to come as it develops…
