Abilene Christian University head men’s basketball coach Joe Golding announced that he has added former Stephen F. Austin standout Antonio Bostic to his coaching staff as an assistant coach.
Bostic served last season as an assistant Neosho County Community College (Kan.) where he played one season in 2009-10 after graduating from Shawnee Mission West High School. Bostic rounds out Golding’s staff, which returns associate head coach Brette Tanner and assistant coach Ron Holmes and welcomes new assistant coaches Ted Crass and Bostic.
“We’re very fortunate to add a person and coach like Antonio Bostic,” Golding said. “He’s been a winner everywhere he’s been as a player and as a coach, and we’re establishing a winning culture here at ACU and we want him to be part of that. He played for two coaches (Jeremy Coombs at Neosho and Danny Kaspar at SFA) that I have a ton of respect for and how they go about their business, so we know he’s been prepared very well for this role.”
Last year at Neosho, Bostic was an assistant coach on a team that finished 30-6 overall (15-4 and runner-up in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference). Neosho won the National Junior Collegiate Athletics Association Region VI championship before falling in the second round of the NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchison, Kan.
Bostic started his playing career at Neosho County, playing one season under Coombs (2009-10) before continuing his career at Stephen F. Austin where he played under Kaspar and Tanner, who was an assistant coach at SFA. During his three seasons as a Lumberjack, Bostic earned first team all-Southland Conference honors as a junior in 2011-12 and second team all-conference honors as a senior in 2012-13.
He averaged 9.6 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.2 steals per game for a Lumberjack team that was 65-28 in his three seasons. As a senior he led SFA to a 27-5 record, regular-season league title and a spot in the NIT. He finished his career with 64 consecutive starts and ranked eighth in program history in steals (184).
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING ABOUT ANTONIO BOSTIC
“Antonio is an enthusiastic, personal and hard-working young man. He has a great personality and will be very successful coaching at the collegiate level. I’m very fortunate to have coached such a talented and committed young man, and I’m grateful I had the opportunity to work with him.”
— Current Texas State head men’s basketball coach Danny Kaspar, who coached Bostic at Stephen F. Austin from 2010-13
“Antonio is one of the best young coaches in the business. He did a fantastic job recruiting and coaching, both in practice and in games. He was a huge part of our success last season and is a big reason this program will continue its success next season. He will be missed, but we are extremely happy he has been such a great opportunity at ACU, and I know he will do an amazing job there.”
— Neosho County Community College head coach Jeremy Coombs
