Now that NC State associate head coach Bobby Lutz has withdrawn from the search at Appalachian State, AD Charlie Cobb is on to plan B. Here are some of the names that I’ve heard the most when talking about this search…
Duggar Baucom – Head Coach VMI. His squad is currently 22012 and still alive in the CIT. Has won 140 games in 9 seasons at VMI. Went 37-19 in two seasons at Tusculum before taking the VMI job. Also served as an assistant at Davidson and Western Carolina.
Derrick Clark – Head Coach Metro State. Led his team to a 32-2 record this past season. Lost to eventual DII National Champion Central Missouri in the Final Four last week in Evansville. Holds a 111-20 record in his four seasons at Metro State. Has also been an assistant at Colorado and Air Force.
Darrin Horn – Former Head Coach South Carolina. Former head coach South Carolina and Western Kentucky. Holds a 171-111 record in 9 seasons as a DI head coach. Had 4 straight 22+ win seasons at WKU capping it off with a 29 win campaign in 2007-08. Also worked as an assistant at Marquette under Tom Crean.
Ritchie McKay – Associate Head Coach Virginia. Former head coach at Liberty, New Mexico, Oregon State, Colorado State, and Portland State. Holds a 204-186 record in 13 seasons as a DI head coach.
Lavelle Moton – Head Coach NC Central. Sounds like he may be involved at Jacksonville and Marshall as well. A hot name after leading his alma mater to a 28 win season and an NCAA appearance. Has been the head coach at NCCU since 2009 – was an assistant there before that.
