Sean Kearney, the Director of Player Development at Colorado, has been named the Associate Commissioner for Men’s Basketball for the Atlantic 10 Conference, as announced Thursday by Commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade. Kearney will oversee all aspects of A-10 Men’s Basketball Operations.

Kearney has been at the University of Colorado under head coach Tad Boyle since 2013. He also was the head coach at Holy Cross and the Associate Head Coach at Notre Dame under Mike Brey for nine years.

“I am excited to have Sean join our staff.  His coaching, media and current administrative experience is a perfect fit for the A-10,” stated McGlade. “Sean brings a wealth of basketball expertise, an engaging level of professionalism and an impeccable reputation to the league.”

Kearney will be responsible for oversight of key men’s basketball areas; including scheduling, officiating, strategic planning and brand management. He will also assist in the planning and execution of the league’s premier event, the annual Men’s Basketball Championship, which will be played at Barclays Center in Brooklyn in 2020 and 2021. Sean will work directly with the league’s media partners in all areas of linear, cable and digital distribution of games and auxiliary programming.

“The Atlantic 10 is one of the best basketball leagues in the country, and I’d like to thank Commissioner McGlade for the opportunity to join the conference staff,” Kearney said. “My hope is that my experiences with scheduling, officiating and media will help enhance the league’s efforts to maintain its national standing.”

Kearney’s administrative work with Colorado included a focus on scheduling, overseeing international team travel, program analytics and strategic planning. Additionally, he worked as a basketball analyst for both Notre Dame and ESPN prior to working at Colorado. He also worked in the Big Ten Conference as an official’s observer during regular season competition.

“Sean’s experience and knowledge of college basketball speaks for itself,” said Boyle. “His ability to connect with people has helped us at Colorado in his time with us and I expect him to be a great addition to the Atlantic 10 brand.”

In addition to long-time stints with both Boyle at Colorado and Brey at Notre Dame and Delaware, Kearney’s background includes serving as an assistant coach for Hall of Famers Herb Magee and Rick Pitino. He worked with Magee at Philadelphia University and began his college coaching career with Pitino at Providence.
