Atlantic Sun update

There are two jobs still open in the A-Sun – Stetson and Kennesaw State. A third, Florida Gulf Coast, was filled this week when they hired Florida State assistant Andy Enfield. We have had a bunch of people asking about the two remaining openings, so I did some digging today. Here is what I found out via different sources….

Stetson – possibly down to their final three. Contenders are:

Robert Wilkes – Assistant coach Old Dominion. Is a Stetson alum (currently 5th all-time in assists). His father Glenn won 551 games in 36 seasons at the head coach at Stetson. Has been at ODU for 9 seasons. Was an assistant at Florida State from 2000-02, and Georgia Southern from 1999-000.

Jorge Fernandez – Associate head coach Miami. He’s a Florida guy. He’s been at UM for seven seasons (not sure if he’d go to Missouri with Frank Haith). Has coached at two Miami high schools, as well as working at Barry College.

Casey Alexander – Associate head coach Belmont. Has been mentioned with a ton of jobs at this level. Obviously knows the league – Belont went 19-1 in the A-Sun this season (30-5 overall).

Kennesaw State –

Casey Alexander (see above)

Greg Matta – Head coach North Cobb Christian School. A former Kennesaw State assistant. Brother of Ohio State head coach Thad Matta.

Robert McCullum – Former assistant Georgia Tech. Spent one season on Paul Hewitt’s staff. Has 27 seasons of coaching experience, McCullum’s resume includes jobs as head coach at Western Michigan (2000-03) and South Florida (2003-07).

I have also heard Augusta State head coach Dip Metress and Georgia assistant Phillip Pearson mentioned here, but not sure how involved they are.
