Auburn basketball coach Bruce Pearl has added Chad Prewett and Jordan VerHulst to his staff, he announced on Wednesday. Prewett comes from Lee-Scott Academy in Auburn and takes on the role of Special Assistant to the Head Coach while VerHulst joins the program from Memphis as the Video Coordinator.

"I am very excited to add Chad Prewett and Jordan VerHulst to my staff," Pearl said. "Both of these guys have great basketball minds and are the perfect pieces for my staff."

Prewett joined the staff at Lee-Scott Academy in 2007 as both the boys and girls basketball and track coach. He led the varsity boys basketball team to the 2012 AISA State Championship, a runner-up finish in 2011 and the Final Four in 2009 and 2010. Over the years the Lee-Scott boys team’s went 139-31. On the girls side he led the program to four AISA State Championships (2009, 2011, 2012, 2013), a runner-up finish in 2014 and the Final Four in 2008 and 2010. Five times he was named the AISA All-Star Game Coach, he was the 2009 AISA Coach of the Yea and the OA News Coach of the Year four times (2012 – boys; 2008, 2009, 2011 – girls). He also coached the AISA Track State Champions in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

"It is an amazing opportunity when you combine Coach Pearl and what he has done with the college that I have been a fan of my whole life. It’s just perfect," Prewett said. "(My family and I) have been here for seven years and we are rooted here. Combine that with the opportunity to be with one of the greatest coaches ever and I’m pretty excited about the opportunity."

Prior to his stay at Lee-Scott Prewett was the varsity boys basketball and track coach at Faith Academy in Mobile from 2004-07. He led the boys basketball team to the 2006 AISA State Championship, the 2005 Final Four and was the 2006 AISA All-Star Game Coach and Coach of the Year. He led Faith Academy to a 63-21 record.

Prewett started his coaching career at Escambia Academy. From 1995-2004 he was a coach for the basketball, football, golf and track teams and added the title of Athletics Director from 1998-04. Escambia was awarded the AISA Chairman’s Award for Outstanding Program in 1998, 1999 and 2000.

Prewett earned a bachelor’s of science from Troy State University in 1994 in health, physical education and recreation and a Master’s degree in Foundations of Education in 2000. He and his wife Tonya have three daughters: Madison, Mallory and Mary Mykal.

VerHulst was the video coordinator at Memphis from 2009-14. There he broke down upcoming opponents and presented coaches and players scouting reports. He also developed software to create plus-minus reports, shot charts and offensive efficiency.

"I am really happy to be joining Coach Pearl’s staff," VerHulst said. "He has had incredible success in the SEC and college basketball in general. I am excited to be working with someone of his caliber and I know he will bring Auburn basketball back to where it should be."

VerHulst graduated Grand Valley State University in 2008 with a bachelor of arts in business management. He then moved to Memphis where he earned his Master’s in Sport Management in 2012.

VerHulst was the assistant varsity basketball coach and the eighth grade head coach for Godwin Heights Public Schools from 2007-09. He also spent time as the media/community relations intern with the Grand Rapids Rampage of the Arena Football League in 2008.
