Backalar hired as Assistant Basketball Coach at Rockford

The Rockford University men’s basketball program is excited to announce the hiring of Dylan Backalar as an assistant coach.

“Coach DB came highly recommended from a great program,” Head Coach Jeremy Reigle remarked. “His work ethic and love for basketball are second to none, and his attention to detail and basketball IQ will be an incredible asset to our program. I am thrilled to have him join us!”

“I am incredibly thankful to Coach Reigle for giving me the opportunity to join the Rockford University basketball family,” Coach Dylan Backalar stated. “Working alongside Coach Reigle at a program that has made tremendous strides under his leadership the past few years is everything I could wish for. I am really excited to get to work with our student-athletes, as well as build relationships at the school and in the community. I am proud to be a Regent and am looking forward to the upcoming season!”

Backalar joins the Regents after spending two years as a graduate assistant coach at UW-Parkside where he was involved in all facets of the program. Some of Coach Backalar’s duties included: recruiting, practice planning, creating scouting reports, planning travel arrangements and monitoring academic progress. The Rangers posted nearly a .600 win percentage over his two years, including a 21-9 mark in 2022-23, which was their best record since 2016-17. Parkside went on to win the 2022-23 GLIAC regular season title and earn a berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament. Backalar also coached eight all-conference selections, including the 2022-23 GLIAC Player of the Year.

Prior to coaching at Parkside, Backalar spent four seasons as the head manager for the men’s basketball program at Ball State University. Backalar was tasked with a variety of jobs while at Ball State including: breaking down game and recruit film, statting practices and organizing team activities.

Backalar graduated from Ball State University in 2022 with a bachelor’s degree in Sport Administration. He then went on to complete his master’s degree in Sports Management at UW-Parkside.
