Shaw University head men’s basketball coach, Bobby Collins has added Jawann Baker to his staff as an assistant coach.
“I am thrilled to be joining what is already an exceptional coaching staff under Coach Collins here at Shaw University,” added Baker. “I share coach’s vision for the program, and will work tirelessly to assist building a positive, winning culture, while cultivating successful young men. Go Bears!”
Baker comes to Shaw after serving as an associate head coach at Wake Technical Community College (NJCAA Region 10) for three seasons.
Prior to Wake Tech CC, Baker served as an assistant men’s varsity and junior varsity coach at Word of God Christian Academy under former head coach Brian Clifton. In that role Baker assisted the head coach player development and practice/gameday preparation and execution.
Previously, Baker also spent two years as assistant men’s coach at Bull City Prep Academy under head coach Darryl Harris.
Baker earned his degree in psychology: life coaching in 2015 from Liberty University. Baker played 2 seasons collegiately at the UNC Pembroke under coach Jason Tinsley 2005-2007. Prior to UNC Pembroke, Baker attended Massanutten Military Academy, playing a postgraduate season under Bruce Kreutzer. A native of Raleigh, NC, Baker graduated in 2004 from Raleigh Christian Academy where he won a NCCSA 3A State Championship and was named to the All-conference team.
Coach Baker also has 10 years of coaching experience in the grassroots travel basketball circuits. He has served in numerous roles with elite programs in the RDU area.
