Basketball HQ Monday: 3 Bounce Between the Legs Drill

This is a drill that the UNCG staff uses during their workouts, and it is going to really work on being able to make an explosive dribble move past a defender. It is going to work on being able to change gears quickly. Players that are able to make great penetration moves are able to quickly change speeds and create angles past their defender. This drill is instructed by Head Coach Wes Miller.

Drill Name: 3 Bounce Between the Legs Drill

Drill Goal: Work on making an explosive move past your defender.

Equipment Needed: 1 basketball and one partner.

Tips:

  • Stay low and athletic when you make your move.
  • Be as explosive as you can when you make your dribble move to attack.
  • Really try to change up speeds.
  • Keep your eyes up as you handle the ball.

Directions: The player is going to start with the basketball in their right hand 5-6 feet off the 3 point line and the dummy defender is going to be on the 3 point line facing them (if you have a pad or some kind of boxing gloves you can use them). When the drill starts, the player is going to take 3 between the legs scissor dribbles. As they go between the legs for the third time they are going to push the ball out and attack. They will make an in and out move at the dummy defense and then go finish at the basket (you can work on different types of finishes). The next player in line will go or you will reset if their is only one player doing the drill.
