Baylor men’s basketball 15th-year head coach Scott Drew announced two additions and two promotions on his coaching staff on Thursday.
Bill Peterson joins the staff as Director of Basketball Operations and Ty Beard is the Bears’ new Director of Video Operations. Additionally, Drew promoted Jared Nuness to Special Assistant and Director of Player Development and Aditya Malhotra to Associate Director of Operations and Recruiting.
Peterson brings more than a decade of NBA experience to Baylor. He spent the past three seasons as Head Coach of the NBA G-League’s Erie BayHawks, an Orlando Magic affiliate, and he was an Assistant Coach for the Milwaukee Bucks for six seasons from 2007-13. He also has NBA experience as Player Development Coach and Scout for the Dallas Mavericks (1998-2000) and as a Special Assistant with the Golden State Warriors.
Peterson also has extensive experience on the collegiate level as both a head coach and assistant. He spent seven seasons as Associate Head Coach at Colorado State from 2000-07 and was Head Coach at University of Alabama-Huntsville (1994-97) and Union [Ky.] College (1983-87). Peterson also worked as Assistant Head Coach at McNeese State (1987-94) and Bossier Parrish Community College (1997-99). He broke into the collegiate ranks as a Graduate Assistant at Louisiana Tech, where he coached Hall of Famer Karl Malone from 1980-83. Peterson is a 1979 graduate of Eckerd [Fla.] College.
Beard joins the Baylor staff with six years of experience as a collegiate assistant coach. He spent the past three seasons as Assistant Coach at John Brown University, and prior to joining the JBU staff he was Associate Head Coach at Oklahoma Wesleyan for three seasons. Beard previously worked on the Baylor staff as a Graduate Assistant during the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons. He received a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Baylor in 2009 and a Master’s in Sports Management in 2011.
Nuness is in his eighth year on the Baylor coaching staff. He was Director of Player Personnel for the past five seasons and worked his first two years as Director of Video Operations. Nuness played collegiate at Valparaiso, where he was a freshman on the 1998 Sweet 16 team. He earned his degree from Valpo in 2001 and worked his way up the high school coaching ranks before joining the Baylor staff in 2010.
Malhotra is in his fifth season on the Baylor coaching staff. He joined the program as a Graduate Assistant in 2013 and he spent the past two seasons as Special Assistant to the Head Coach. A 2006 Baylor graduate, Malhotra began his coaching career in 2007 at Greenhill Private School, where he spent six seasons as Boys’ Basketball Coach.
