Regent University Director of Athletics Michael W. Allen has announced the hiring of Spencer Beaty as the Royals new Head Men’s Basketball Coach. Beaty enters into his first season at the helm of the program, and his 19th season overall. Prior to being named head coach of the Royals, Beaty served as the assistant men’s basketball coach at Hardin-Simmons University of the American Southwest Conference (ASC).
“I want to thank my Lord and Savior for not only the opportunity, but His timing has been perfect and I am honored and humbled that He chose Regent and myself to come together”, said Beaty. “I also want to thank Dr. Umidi, Athletic Director Michael Allen, the athletic department coaches and staff, and the committee for entrusting me as the next head coach of the Men’s Basketball program. Without the love and support of my family, none of this would be possible and I pray that my faith in following Christ where He calls me, will serve as an example for them to do the same. Regent is a special place that I have intentionally prayed about, and that Christ would open the door so not only that I might lead young men, but that I might continue to grow my relationship with the Lord in His called mission field for myself.”
Beaty served as the assistant men’s basketball coach at Hardin-Simmons University since July 2023 after joining the staff following his stint at Oak Ridge H. S. in Tennessee.
“After a national search that attracted over 60 applicants, ranging from NCAA Division 1, Division 2, Division 3, NAIA, Junior College, and all the way down to the high school ranks, I am thrilled to add Coach Beaty to our Royals family”. said Allen. “I have known Spencer since his collegiate playing days, and have followed his coaching career through the years. He has the passion, knowledge, energy, and experience we were looking for as we make our transition to NCAA Division III. He will not only mentor and challenge our student-athletes in all walks of their lives, but most importantly, his love for the Lord and alignment with our university’s mission to Create Christian Leaders to Change the World, is his main goal. We cannot wait for him to arrive on campus to begin building upon and strengthening our men’s basketball foundation.”
The Maryville College graduate and Lincoln Memorial University Ed. S. graduate has been a part of many impressive teams on the court. He has helped coach a team that went undefeated in the South Region and made an appearance in the Sweet 16. He also helped with 5 regular season conference championships and 4 conference tournament championships in the Great South Athletic Conference and 5 consecutive runs to the NCAA Tournament.
Coach has also coached Academic All Conference players, All-Region Players, multiple Conference Player of the Year, and Two McDonald All-Americans.
Beaty is a native of Jamestown, Tenn., and is married to his wife, Ginni. They have five children Nadia, Nick, Zoe Beth, Wesley and Bella Kate.
