Bemidji State names Majkrzak assistant

Bemidji State Head Men’s Basketball Coach Mike Boschee has announced the addition of Matt Majkrzak as an assistant coach. Majkrzak, most recently a graduate assistant at Chadron State College, joins Boschee and assistant coach Ryan Montgomery for the 2014-15 season.

“We are very excited to add Matt to our coaching staff,” Boschee said. “He is a good, young coach with experiences that will allow him to bring some new ideas and energy into his role here at Bemidji State.”

Majkrzak (MACK-er-zak) will work in all phases of the program with focus on recruiting, individual player development, game preparation, assist the strength and conditioning coach, team travel, academic progress, camp organization and instruction and community engagement.

While at Chadron State, Majkrzak helped coordinate the recruiting efforts for the 2013 and 2014 classes, coached the post players, prepared and presented scouting reports, oversaw seven student-athletes’ academic progress and prepared video on Eagles’ players and opponents. He also performed administrative duties, which included travel, expense reports, team meals, recruit mailings, film exchange and practice times. Majkrzak helped organized a youth tournament and CSC men’s basketball camps.

Chadron State (Chadron, Neb.) competes in NCAA Division II and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC). Last season the Eagles went 11-15 overall and 8-14 in league play.

Prior to his time at CSC, Majkrzak served as a student assistant for four seasons at University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. During his junior and senior years, he supervised a group of eight managers. His weekly duties included assisting with scouting reports, organization of team uniforms and equipment and assisting the director of basketball operations. In-game, Majkrzak was responsible for the matchup board and collaborating with coaches on matchups and strategies. He also coordinated the filming of games and practices.

The Phoenix went 15-15 overall with a 10-8 Horizon League (NCAA Division I) record in 2011-12, Majkrzak’s last season with the team.

Majkrzak founded an AAU basketball program, the Wisconsin Jets, in April of 2010 and served as head coach for a 16-and-under team and a 17-and-under squad in 2010, three different teams (15U/16/U/17U) in 2011 and served as head coach of a 17-and-under group in 2012. Two players from his 2012 team were recruited to NCAA Division I schools, while four were recruited to NCAA Division II programs. As the founder and head coach, Majkrzak conducted all the administrative duties involved in maintaining an AAU program.

An Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin native, Majkrzak earned a bachelor’s degree in business management at UW-Green Bay and a master’s degree in organizational management with an emphasis in sports at Chadron State.
