Black Hills State University head men’s basketball coach Jeff Trumbauer has announced the addition of Rion Rayfield as assistant coach.
"I couldn’t be more excited about adding Rion to our staff," Trumbauer said. "He comes with an impressive background and great deal of passion for coaching and recruiting. He is well connected and respected throughout the college coaching circles, which will greatly help our recruiting efforts."
Rayfield comes to Black Hills State after a two-year stint with the Solrød Comets of the Danish Basketligaen. Rayfield played at Florida Southern from 2006-2011, where he was set a school record for games played and 3-point field goals.
The native of Burlington, Wisconsin, finished his stellar career with the Mocs with 1,870 points, second all-time at FSC. He also ranks second in career assists (544) and free throw percentage (.854).
During his senior campaign, Rayfield earned Division II Bulletin Honorable Mention All-American honors along with a spot in the NABC All-Star Game after scoring 502 points, dishing 152 assists and shooting nearly 40 percent from long range.
Rayfield will begin his duties immediately with the Yellow Jackets.
"Rion is an excellent coach," Trumbauer added. "Over the past several summers he has worked with some of the best individual coaches in the country in Mike Lee and Forrest Larrson. I wanted someone with passion for the process of building this program and he will help us immensely in every aspect."
