Boston College has hired Bill Wuczynski as assistant coach for the men’s basketball team, announced today by head coach Jim Christian.
"I couldn’t be more excited to have Bill with us at Boston College," Christian said. "We have been together for six years and he is one of the best teachers of the game that I have been around. He is also one of the hardest workers in the country both on and off the court. Bill’s passion for teaching and developing talent is something that will impact this program going forward."
Wuczynski has spent the last six seasons on Christian’s staff. He joined Christian at TCU for the 2008 season and spent the last two years at Ohio. During that time, the Bobcats had a 49-22 record. In his first season in Athens, Ohio went 24-10 and earned a bid to the NIT. This past year, the Bobcats went 25-12 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the College Insider Tournament.
Wuczynski worked closely with the Ohio guards. The Bobcats led the MAC in assists in each of his two seasons. In 2012-13, Ohio led the nation in assists per game (17.5) and set a school record with 539 assists on the year. The team eclipsed that record this season, dishing out 559 assists (15.1 per game). Ohio ranked 36th in the country in assists per game this past season.
Wuczynski coached D.J. Cooper who was the 2013 MAC Player of the Year and an AP All-America Honorable Mention. He ranked seventh nationally in assists and was a Cousy Award Finalist. Wuczynski also guided Nick Kellogg to All-MAC honors this past season.
Wuczynski joined Christian in Fort Worth in 2008 and spent four seasons as an assistant coach at TCU, leading the Horned Frogs to its first winning season in seven years when they went 18-15 in 2011-12 and an appearance in the College Basketball Invitational.
A graduate of UNLV, Wuczynski has also had assistant coaching stops at FIU (2005-08), Loyola-Chicago (2002-05) and UNLV (2001-02). He began his career as the Director of Operations for the Rebels from 1997-2001.
