Mike Bowens has been promoted to Associate Head Basketball Coach at D2 Chestnut Hill College (PA). The school released the following on social media:
Bowens joined Head Coach J.J. Butler’s staff as an assistant coach prior to the 2021-2022 season. His primary focus is the recruitment of the greater Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, metropolitan area, as well as scouting reports, the creation and implementation of the staff’s defensive game plan, and player development. Coach Bowens previously served as the associate head coach at Penn State Brandywine (2018-2021), where he served as the Nittany Lions as a defensive coordinator and recruiter.
Prior to Penn State Brandywine, Coach Bowens was the head boy’s junior varsity coach and assistant varsity coach at Friends Central School (2015-2018). There, he had the pleasure of coaching current Atlanta Hawk guard/forward De’Andre Hunter. Bowens has also coached numerous Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) teams, including the East Coast Power Under-17 National team (2016-2018).
A native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Coach Bowens attended Archbishop John Carroll High School. He is a 2014 graduate of Cabrini College (Cabrini University), where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration (minored in sport management). He continued his education with a 2019 master’s degree from Drexel University in sport coaching leadership. Aside from coaching, Bowens is a health and physical education teacher in the Philadelphia School District.
