Rice University head men’s basketball coach Ben Braun completed his staff for the 2013-14 season as he announced the addition of assistant coaches Brian Eskildsen and Adam Gierlach on Tuesday. Eskildsen comes to Rice from Stanford, where spent the past three seasons on the Cardinal staff, while Gierlach recently completed his fifth season with the Owls.

During Eskildsen’s tenure in Palo Alto, the Cardinal claimed the 2012 National Invitation Tournament title to cap off a 26-11 campaign that saw a program-record 17 home wins and four all-conference honorees. Stanford returned to the NIT in 2013 and advanced to the second round behind first team all-Pac 12 team honoree Dwight Powell.

In Eskildsen’s three years as Recruiting and Video Coordinator, Stanford won 60 games and improved by 11 wins in his second season under head coach Johnny Dawkins. Eskildsen oversaw the recruiting database while assisting the coaching staff in the coordination of all recruiting efforts. He was also responsible for handling film exchange and assisted the coaching staff with scouting video.

Eskildsen previously served as the Director of Basketball Operations at the University of New Orleans for the 2009-10 season. His duties included travel, scheduling, directing summer camps and overseeing academics. The 2009 University of Tennessee graduate served on the scout team and as an office assistant for the Lady Vols under head coach Pat Summitt. While at Tennessee, he was a member of two national championship teams.

In his most recent role as Video Coordinator and Director of Player Development, Gierlach’s responsibilities included creating comprehensive breakdowns of video and cutups for opponent scouting, assisting in the development of scouting reports as well as coordinating film exchange. Internally, he tirelessly oversaw filming and logging games, practices and individual workouts.

Gierlach began working with Rice Basketball in 2008 as a student manager. He worked his way into the head manager role for his final two years as an undergraduate. Following his 2012 graduation, he transitioned into a full-time role on the staff.

Associate head coach Louis Reynaud returns for his sixth season at Rice. The Owls return eight players from last season’s squad and bring in a talented incoming class for 2013-14.
