Long-time Western Connecticut Head Coach Bob Campbell will retire before the upcoming season according to a report by Hoopsville’s Dave McHugh. In 32 seasons as the head coach at Western, he compiled a 590-278 (.680) record. Some of Campbell’s accomplishments include: Twelve seasons with 20 or more wins, including seven consecutive from 1988 to 1995. Twelve invitations to the NCAA tournament, advancing to at least the second round eight times, the most recent being in 2011-12. Five Little East Conference championships. 28-2 overall record and a #2 National ranking in a 1989-90 season that ended in an OT loss in the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament. A school record 20 straight wins during the 1985-86 season.
According to the report, Campbell’s last day will be October 31st. An official announcement is expected within the next week.
