Bridgewater College Names Patrick Ackerman Assistant Basketball Coach

Bridgewater College head men’s basketball coach Shawn Postiglione has announced the addition of Patrick Ackerman to his staff for the 2016-17 season.

Ackerman is a May, 2016 graduate of the University of Detroit Mercy. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in communications with a focus on broadcast journalism and a minor in leadership.

Ackerman played two seasons at Penn State University before transferring to Detroit Mercy. After sitting out a season due to transfer rules, he played his junior season at Detroit Mercy before missing his senior year due to injury.

While playing in college, Ackerman was a counselor for various basketball camps at both Penn State and Detroit Mercy. He also worked one summer for Zero Gravity Basketball, managing game sites for AAU tournaments staged by the organization.

Ackerman grew up in a coaching family as his father Tom is the former head coach at Division II programs Mansfield College and Assumption College.

Ackerman fills a void on the staff left by the departures of assistants Bradley Riester and Sean Jones. Riester accepted a job in the private sector and will also coach at James River H.S. in Richmond. Jones accepted a full-time assistant coaching position at Maryville College in Tennessee.
