Steve Brodzinski has been appointed to the position of head men’s basketball coach at Community College of Beaver County. Brodzinski brings 10 years of coaching experience to CCBC, having coached at almost every level of basketball.
"My last 10 years have been a potpourri of coaching experiences that have taken me to almost every level of basketball," said Brodzinski. “I am grateful to have the opportunity to build a high-level college program at a well-respected school with fantastic facilities and give student-athletes the opportunity to develop athletically and academically to achieve their goals."
Brodzinski started his coaching career at NCAA Division II Clarion University as an assistant in 2005, where he spent two seasons. Brodzinski then moved on as an assistant men’s basketball coach at New Jersey Institute of Technology, where he was the youngest second assistant coach in all of NCAA Division I.
“Steve brings a tireless work ethic and the ability to motivate and mold young men. As a coach that was once recognized as one of the youngest NCAA Division 1 assistant coaches in the country, Steve is well versed in all aspects of building a respectable program, including the in-game strategies, recruiting, how to work with administrators, and how to get his student-athletes to be successful in the classroom,” said John Ashaolu, Director of Athletics and Student Programs at CCBC.
In 2009, Brodzinski served as an assistant coach for the boys’ basketball team at Mt. Lebanon High School, in Pittsburgh, PA, that won a WPIAL Championship and earned a USA Today #17 in the Country Ranking during the season. He spent the next two seasons at The Kiski School in Saltsburg, PA, where he served as Associate Head Coach for a program that won two IPSL Championships and produced numerous NCAA Division I prospects.
Brodzinski has been a head coach on the AAU circuit and has specialized in player development throughout his coaching career. He has worked as a coach at a number of basketball camps, including Five Star, The Hoop Group, and Coach K’s Duke University Camp.
As a player, Brodzinski was an all-section performer at Bethel Park High School in Pittsburgh, PA. He then transferred to Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia, PA, where he started for the nationally-recognized program in his senior year. Brodzinski went on to New York University, where he was a four-year varsity player, competing on some of the top NCAA Division III teams in the Northeast region.
Brodzinski holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and communications from New York University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Clarion University of Pennsylvania.
"My main goal as the head coach is to cultivate a winning mentality on the court and in the classroom, giving our student-athletes the ability to develop as young men in every area of their lives,” said Brodzinski. “I want to build CCBC into one of the top NJCAA programs in the country, and that all starts with recruiting extremely motivated, high character student-athletes."
While the College took a year off from basketball, Brodzinski will begin recruitment for a new men’s basketball team to start in the fall 2015.
“Steve is well respected in basketball circles locally and regionally, which will aid in his recruiting efforts. I look forward to working with him to help our student-athletes reach their academic and athletic goals,” commented Ashaolu.
