Raritan Valley Community College is proud to announce and welcome Jyron Brooks as the new Lions Head Basketball Coach. Brooks will be in charge of the Raritan Valley basketball team for the upcoming season.
Jyron Brooks comes to Raritan Valley Community College with over 10 years of coaching experience. He was the head coach at Marist High School in Bayonne, NJ for four years. While there, his teams averaged 16 wins a year and developed several all county players while there. Known for their tough defense and high effort, Coach Brooks’s teams exemplified his coaching values of bringing maximum effort the entire game.
Brooks states:”I’m really excited to become head coach at RVCC, the program has made great strides in the last 5 years. My goal is to build off of that and compete at the highest levels possible.”
Before taking over at Marist, Brooks was a special consultant at Roselle Catholic High School. While there they won the first of their several Tournament of Champions championships and compiling a record of 25-5.
The previous year he was an assistant coach at St. Peter’s Prep in Jersey City, NJ where the made it to the county finals and won 19 games. Brooks was especially involved in the development several of the players who went on to receive scholarships at the next level.
Prior to his stint at St. Peter’s Prep, Coach Brooks was an assistant at St. Patrick’s High School in Elizabeth, NJ under Coach Kevin Boyle. While there they averaged 25 wins per year and finished ranked in the Top 5 nationally. He was especially involved in the development of the guards in the program at all levels.
George Eversmann, Director of Athletics at Raritan Valley, states: “We are very excited to welcome Jyron Brooks to RV. Jyron’s energy, passion and commitment to both academics and athletics will serve our student-athletes well as they prepare to transfer and compete at the 4 year level or enter the workforce after life at RV. Jyron is very familiar with our program’s history as some of his former players were recruited and played under former head coach Kevin Ryan. Jyron will look to continue to build upon the program’s recent success and take it to the next level.”
