Belhaven University and Vice President and Director of Athletics, Scott Little, are pleased to announce the hiring of Josh Brooks as the next head coach to led the Men’s Basketball program.
“It is great to have Josh back at Belhaven, and now as Head Coach to lead the young men in our program. Knowing Josh for years, I have seen firsthand his love for Christ, his commitment to his family and his heart to lead young men both competitively and spiritually,” said Little.
Brooks becomes the ninth coach of the Blazers and comes to Belhaven after serving as Head Boys’ Basketball Coach at Jackson Academy since June of 2018.
“I’m beyond excited about rejoining the Belhaven community. The opportunity to work at an institution that is committed to their Christian mission and to excelling in academics and athletics is a dream job for me,” commented Brooks.
Over the past four seasons at Jackson Academy, Brooks has created a winner’s mentality as his team posted a 91-48 overall record. Brooks led the Raiders to three State Tournament appearances and finished Overall State Runner-up this past year. Additionally, he made it to the Overall State Elite Eight (2020-21) and the Overall State Final Four (2018-19).
Prior to his time at JA, Brooks spent ten years as the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Mississippi College and helped guide the Choctaws to six American Southwest Conference Tournaments. During the 2008-09 season, Brooks helped lead MC to a 20-7 overall record and an appearance in the American Southwest Conference Championship game.
In 2004, Brooks accepted the Head Boys’ Basketball job at Hernando High School in north Mississippi. He had an overall record of 75-41 during his time at Hernando High School. Additionally, he won the Region 2-4A Championship during the 2007-08 season with a record of 28-7 and earned 2006-07 Region 2-4A Coach of the Year during that season.
Before his time at Hernando High School, Brooks spent two seasons (2002-04) as the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Belhaven University. Brooks was the Recruiting Coordinator and assisted in developing scouting reports for the team.
Brooks graduated from Mississippi College, where he played four years of intercollegiate basketball. The Memphis, Tenn. Native received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from MC and earned his Master’s degree from Belhaven.
Josh and his wife Marie have two children: Avery and Mallory.
