Brown joins Governors State Men’s Basketball Staff

Mike Brown has been named as an assistant coach with the Governors State men’s basketball team.

A Chicago native, Brown served as an assistant coach at Purdue Northwest from 2018-20, helping the Pride to its most successful season since becoming an NCAA Division II member. Brown was also a Division II assistant at Maryville (2017-18) and Saint Joseph’s (2014-15). At Maryville, Brown helped the Saints to an 11-game win improvement and a GLVC Central Division regular season title.

At the junior college level, Brown spent two years as head coach at Richard Daley College, where he increased the team’s win total by seven in his first year and produced 15 victories in Year Two. His 2016-17 squad produced the highest team GPA in school history. Prior to Daley, Brown had stints as an assistant coach at Kankakee and Rock Valley. While at Kankakee, Brown was a factor in the Cavaliers making consecutive NJCAA Region IV Finals and earning a No. 25 national ranking.

No stranger to the CCAC, Brown played basketball at Saint Xavier University, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. He also completed a Master of Arts in Sports Leadership at Concordia University Chicago.
